    Metronidazole does not kill intestinal worms such as roundworms, hookworms, or whipworms. Metronidazole can be used to treat certain protozoal parasites such as giardia. Your veterinarian can perform a fecal test to identify which intestinal parasite your pet may have so appropriate treatment can be started.

    Probiotics can help populate the intestine of your dog with good bacteria that can help restore the natural balance in the digestive system. Additionally, probiotics can strengthen your dog’s immune system which is why it’s always a good idea to give them probiotics even when they’re not experiencing any gut problems.

    Black stool in dogs may have a “tarry” or “sticky” consistency. The black color comes from partially digested blood. Black stool may be a sign of an ulcer in the upper gastrointestinal tract, such as a stomach ulcer.

  • Illness. A decreased appetite in dogs is often a sign of sickness, especially if your dog is exhibiting other symptoms at the same time. Although a loss of appetite in dogs doesn’t necessarily indicate serious disease, prompt veterinary attention is important because it could be a sign of significant illness, including cancer, various systemic infections, pain, liver problems, and kidney failure.
